Richard “Rick” Spurgeon, 58, of Lafayette, Indiana entered into eternal rest on July 9, 2017. He was born on January 26, 1959 in Indianapolis to the late Darrell and Faye Spurgeon.
Rick will be greatly missed by his co-workers and the many clients he trained and assisted over his nine years with the Caliber team. His colleagues note that, “He was a great mentor and true Subject Matter Expert for all throughout the company and our clients;” another colleague added, “Rick thrived on working the most complex project and sites that challenged him and never shied away from them.” We are deeply saddened by his sudden passing, but will remember Rick for his large heart, jovial attitude, and especially for his 25+ years of selfless public safety service to protect and serve the citizens of Indiana.
Outside of work, Rick enjoyed spending time with his sons, grandchildren and godchildren. He was happiest riding his motorcycle, going boating, and shooting at the gun range. If he wasn’t doing one of those activities, he was probably watching college football.
Rick is survived by his loving sons, Kyle (Lindsey) and Greg Spurgeon, his fiancé, Brenda Mesalam, two grandchildren — Joel and Eli Spurgeon — two brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Friday, July 14, 2017, at G. H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home at The Gardens at Olive Branch, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, IN 46143. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home. http://www.ghherrmann.com/memsol.cgi?user_id=1984770
