For many public safety professionals, the job becomes more than a career—it becomes part of who they are. Even as roles evolve, the commitment to serving others often remains unchanged. At Caliber Public Safety, that dedication is reflected in the people behind our software. Many of our team members have built their careers in public safety, bringing firsthand experience and practical knowledge to the agencies they support every day.
Isaac Sprague, Customer Success Manager at Caliber Public Safety, is one of those professionals. His career has taken him through the fire service, emergency communications, law enforcement, statewide public safety technology, and customer success. Yet despite the different titles he’s held, one thing has remained constant: a passion for helping first responders succeed.
A Career Built on Public Safety
Isaac’s journey began at just 16 years old when he joined his local fire department as a support staff member, assisting firefighters on emergency scenes outside the hot zone. By 18, he had earned his firefighter certification and officially entered the fire service, where he continued serving for more than two decades.
While continuing his work in the fire service, Isaac began his career as a full-time 911 dispatcher in 2009. Like many in public safety, he worked his way up through the ranks—from dispatcher on the midnight shift to training dispatcher, helping prepare new telecommunicators for the demands of the job.
In 2015, he added another chapter to his career by entering law enforcement. Today, he continues serving as a reserve police sergeant in Greentown, Indiana, where he oversees training initiatives, supports agency technology, and helps manage annual state training requirements. Alongside those responsibilities, he remains a certified instructor for both the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.
Even after joining Caliber, Isaac never completely stepped away from public safety. He still serves as a part-time dispatcher and reserve officer, keeping him connected to the day-to-day realities agencies face.
Seeing Public Safety from Every Perspective
Few people experience public safety technology from as many perspectives as Isaac has.
After leaving full-time dispatch, he joined the Indiana Integrated Public Safety Commission as an Applications Analyst, helping support the statewide Caliber CAD and Mobile environment. In that role, he worked directly with agencies across Indiana, supporting daily operations, maintaining systems, and training state police and local agencies on Caliber’s CAD, Mobile, and RMS solutions.
That experience gave him a broader understanding of how technology supports agencies of every size and how important it is for software to work the way first responders need it to.
It also gave him something many customer success professionals don’t have: the perspective of being both a technology instructor and a longtime customer.
From Customer to Caliber
Before Isaac ever joined Caliber, he had already spent years working alongside the team.
As a state applications analyst, he regularly collaborated with Caliber employees, building professional relationships through conferences, training events, and statewide initiatives. Those relationships eventually led to an unexpected conversation after one conference.
“What would it take for you to come work for me?” a Caliber leader asked.
What began as a lighthearted conversation eventually became a career change.
In 2019, Isaac joined Caliber Public Safety as a Customer Success Manager, making the transition from the public sector to private industry for the first time in his career.
“It’s been a great trip so far,” he said. “I love supporting customers… and going out and seeing them.”
For Isaac, joining Caliber wasn’t about leaving public safety behind. It was about finding a new way to continue serving the profession he has always been passionate about.
Why Experience Matters
One of the greatest advantages Isaac brings to customers is credibility.
When agencies call with questions, software challenges, or operational concerns, they aren’t talking to someone who’s only read about dispatching or policing. They’re talking to someone who still works in those environments.
“I’m not just speaking as someone from the company,” Isaac explained. “I’m actually speaking from real-world experience. I know what you guys do day in and day out. I’ve done it. I still do some of it.”
That perspective also comes from being a longtime Caliber customer himself.
He understands what software upgrades feel like from the agency’s perspective. He understands operational pressures, staffing challenges, and the need for technology that works reliably when every second matters.
Having experienced both sides of the relationship allows Isaac to approach every conversation with empathy, practical knowledge, and an understanding of what customers are trying to accomplish.
Relationships That Grow Over Time
For Isaac, customer success has always been about more than software.
Many of the agencies he supports today are organizations he first worked with years ago while serving the State of Indiana. Over time, he’s watched dispatchers become supervisors, supervisors become directors, and customers advance throughout their careers.
“You grow with the customer,” he said. “You grow with the customer’s family.”
Those long-term relationships are one of the things he values most about both public safety and Caliber.
He also appreciates seeing many of the same familiar faces at Caliber that he worked alongside as a customer years ago. While roles have changed over time, the people—and the commitment to serving customers—have remained remarkably consistent.
Still Serving the Mission
Although Isaac’s role looks different today than it did when he first entered public safety, his mission hasn’t changed.
Whether he’s teaching new dispatchers, serving as a reserve police sergeant, supporting agencies through technology, or helping customers navigate challenges, his goal is to help public safety professionals do their jobs more effectively.
At Caliber Public Safety, that’s what makes customer relationships different. Our customers aren’t simply working with software professionals—they’re partnering with people who understand the realities of the job because they’ve lived them. Isaac’s journey reflects Caliber’s commitment to supporting agencies through experience, partnership, and a shared dedication to public safety. Every conversation, every customer visit, and every solution is grounded in one simple idea: the best support comes from people who understand the mission because they’re still living it.
