September 2026 Golden Headset Award Winner – Haley Emerson

“Changing things up just a bit and nominating 2 people for July. Recently, Haley and Grace were working the floor when a flood of 911 calls came in in reference to a shooting that happened on the interstate…during evening rush hour. As one can imagine, they were inundated with calls about the incident, radio traffic for the incident, and naturally multiple other calls occurring during rush hour for a city that 100,000 people call home. Even more impressive is that one of them took the 911 call from the shooter himself, dispatched officers, and continued asking him questions all while remaining calm and ensuring the right people were headed to the scene to do everything they could to save the victim. Both showed incredible teamwork in a stressful situation. Oh, by the way, both are fairly new dispatchers. They did all of this while remaining calm, providing precise information to field units as well as the many people calling in requesting information about the incident, and providing the rest of the city with the great customer service that is normal for them. They deserve as much recognition as possible for an amazing job they did during this critical incident.”
